Brow Lamination Aftercare: Your First Week Guide

A day-by-day brow lamination aftercare guide for your first week: what to avoid in the first 24 hours, which products to skip, and how to brush your brows.

Beauty notes from Seseh, Bali

A fresh Brow Lamination restructures the brow hairs into a lifted, uniform shape, and the setting solution needs a little time to fully settle in. The first week is when most of that settling happens, which is exactly when small habits make the biggest difference to how long your brows hold their new shape. Here’s a simple day-by-day guide.

None of this is complicated, and most of it overlaps with a normal skincare routine anyway. The main idea to keep in mind: the treatment does the structural work in the chair, and your first week either locks that structure in or gradually undoes it before it’s had the chance to fully set.

The first 24 hours: keep it dry

For the first day after your appointment, keep your brows completely dry — no cleansing the brow area, no steam, no sweating it out at the gym, and no swimming. Water and moisture can soften the setting solution before it’s fully cured, which can cause the hairs to relax out of shape prematurely. If you need to wash your face, work around the brows rather than over them.

Days 2–3: gentle and product-free

You can resume your normal skincare routine, but keep it light around the brow area for these two days. Skip retinol, exfoliating acids, and any heavy serums directly on the brows — they can be irritating right after the treatment and may loosen the hold. A fragrance-free moisturizer applied around, not on, the brows is fine.

Days 4–5: brushing becomes your best habit

By day four, most clients can safely start brushing their brows daily. Use a clean spoolie and brush upward and outward, following the shape set during your appointment. This trains the hairs to keep settling in the right direction as the lamination continues to hold, and it prevents any flyaways from developing their own habits.

This is also a good time to reintroduce your normal cleansing routine fully, including around the brow area, as long as you’re still choosing gentle, water-based products over anything oil-based or heavily exfoliating for the remainder of the week.

Days 6–7: back to normal, mostly

By the end of the first week, you can return to your usual makeup and skincare routine, including brow gel or tinted brow products if you use them. It’s still worth avoiding oil-based makeup removers directly on the brows, since oils are one of the main things that break down lamination faster over the following weeks.

Think of the first week less as a restriction and more as letting the treatment finish the job it started in the chair.

Products to avoid for the full first week

  • Oil-based cleansers and removers. These soften the hold faster than water-based formulas.
  • Retinol and exfoliating acids. Save these for skin away from the brow line until day 7.
  • Waterproof or heavy-hold styling products. They can be harder to remove without disturbing the set shape.

How to brush your brows correctly

Use a clean spoolie brush each morning, brushing in the same upward-and-out direction the treatment set. Avoid brushing brows flat or against the grain, even out of habit — it can gradually train stray hairs to fall the wrong way well before the 6–8 week mark.

Makeup during the first week

Most clients skip brow makeup entirely for the first few days simply because the laminated shape looks defined enough on its own. If you do want to fill in or set your brows before day 7, a light, water-based brow pencil or gel is a safer choice than a wax-based product, which tends to sit closer to oil-based formulas that can loosen the hold.

If something feels off

Mild redness right after the appointment is normal and settles within a few hours. If you notice ongoing irritation, message the team on WhatsApp and Dinda or Risma can advise on next steps rather than guessing at home.

When to book your next appointment

Brow lamination generally holds its structure for several weeks, with individual results varying by hair type and growth cycle — ask your therapist what to expect for your own brows. Most clients find that following this first-week routine closely is what determines whether they’re still looking sharp weeks later, or wishing they’d been a little more careful in those early days.
